Knowledge in over 4.9 million publications

No matter whether students want to refresh lectures, prepare presentations or write term papers: The relevant specialist literature is an integral basis for this. All students may borrow publications from ULB (University and State Library) without further costs or read in one of the numerous reading rooms. Saxony-Anhalt’s largest academic general library hosts a collection of around 5.9 million publications at the central library in August-Bebel street as well as its 12 branches.

Registration

Upon enrolment, students will accept the ULB's user regulations and are admitted to use the library. The student ID (Uni-Service-Card) serves as a library card. It is already activated at the start of the semester, but shall be extended in November by presenting an official identification document (identity card, passport with registration certificate or residence permit). Please remember to change your address details in Löwenportal if necessary. Library cards will be renewed for one year.

Use of printed resources

Required media can be researched with the help of Ha:lit catalog. If books are located in open access areas of the branch libraries, they may simply be taken from the shelves and borrowed at the check-out desks. Free scanning facilities are available at all locations for reference literature.

Media from the stacks can be ordered via the catalog. Students will receive a message to their student e-mail address as soon as the title is ready for collection at the check-out desk of the relevant location. Have your student ID (USC) ready.

Use of electronic resources

ULB also has a wide range of electronic resources (e-books, e-journals, databases, etc.). These can be accessed from any computer on campus via the so-called ‘Uninetz’, and also via WLAN using your own end device. Outside of campus WiFi, usage is provided via VPN access.

Introductory events

At the beginning of each winter semester, regular introductions on library usage is being offered for all students. All freshers should take advantage of these! In some cases, the introductions are also integrated into the subject-specific introductory courses. Specific dates and information can be found on the websites of the relevant branch library.
