Student ID (USC)

The USC - one card for everything

Our student ID card is called Uni-Service-Card (USC) and is a true ‘all-rounder’. The USC accompanies all students from enrolment throughout their studies. It confirms your status as a student. On presentation of the card, you can profit from discounted admission to museums, theatres and other cultural institutions in some places. In addition, food in the cafeterias is significantly cheaper.

The Uni-Service-Card is:

Student ID card

After validation (see below), the student ID receives the validity stamp for the current semester. The integrated chip is activated also.

Payment card for cafeteria, photocopier and library fees

The student ID serves as a payment card in canteens and cafeterias of Studentenwerk and at all photocopiers at Halle University. Studentenwerk Halle manages this payment function (credit etc.) and also provides terminals for re-charging. The terminals are located in all cafeterias. They accept banknotes, and more and more often cashless re-charges are also possible. More detailed information is available from the Studentenwerk. There are payment machines in the central library and the branch libraries where you can top up your student ID using your EC/debit card or balance library fees. Students will receive an information sheet together with their student ID.

Library Card

The USC is also the ID card for the university libraries. The library account is automatically created and activated upon enrolment. Students will receive further information during the introductions to using the (branch) libraries (see subject-specific introductory events).

Semester ticket (NO LONGER on the card since April 2024)

When you pay the semester fee, you also pay for the semester ticket - recognisable by the USC stamp of validity. However, since April 2024, the ticket is no longer included on the USC chip because the new Deutschland-Semesterticket must be downloaded via an app! FAQ

Membership card

Membership of the student body: This is important for university elections and when making use of counselling services offered by the Student Council (StuRa). The USC also receives a label for this.

Validation of the student ID

To make sure that the USC is really valid for the next semester, it shall be validated at the beginning (and later after re-registration) by any student. The end of the respective validity period is printed on it, i.e. 31 March or 30 September. The data on the USC chip will be updated accordingly.

The start date (and thus the from-to period of the entire semester) is only printed on new enrolments; new USCs are usually provided already validated. If the card arrives without a date: head to the terminal! It is neither necessary nor advisable to wait until the start of the new semester. This also applies to later semesters.

The USC can be validated at these terminals during the respective opening hours.

Replacement after defect or loss | Problems with the student ID

The first student ID card is free of charge during enrolment. If the card is lost or defective, we will be happy to issue a new USC for a fee of 10.30 euros. You can apply for a new card by e-mail or directly at the Infothek. Details of the procedure can be found on the USC topic page. There we also describe how to fix the most common card defects.
