DAAD

Do you already know the DAAD (German Academic Exchange service or Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, in German)? Obtain more information about it here!

The German Academic Exchange service was founded in 1925 and it is the largest German support organization in the field of international academic co-operation.

What do they do?

“The most important responsibilities of the DAAD include granting scholarships, promoting the internationalisation activities of German universities and research organisations, strengthening German cultural and language studies abroad and helping developing countries establish productive higher education institutions. The DAAD is also the National Agency for EU Higher Education Cooperation.”  -DAAD

Are you planning on studying in Germany, but don’t know where to find more information on which could be the right academic program for you or if it’s maybe possible to get a scholarship? The DAAD has most of these answers for you.

As I started planning to study my bachelor’s degree in Germany, I found myself very overwhelmed, because I didn’t know where to look for the right information. My German level back then was not that good, so researching university by university (given the fact that not all universities have their website in English) would’ve been a real struggle for me.

I was very happy to find the DAAD website because they have plenty of useful information and very well organized. I would highly recommend you to at least check the following:

This database on admission requirements allows international students, in a quick and easy way, to check whether they meet the requirements for the degree programme of their choice in Germany.

Doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a language course, a short course, an international degree, or all degree programs in Germany, you can find information about them here. After selecting which type of program you want, you can use the DAAD’s search tool, which allows you to filter your search by “course type”, “course language”, “field of study” and even by “location (city)”. You can then see all the programs’ results that match your criteria and obtain specific information about them. This includes a general overview, the course details, costs/funding, requirements/registration, services, the contact person in case of an inquiry and a direct link to the course’s website in the university’s website.

Here you can find information on various kinds of DAAD funding for foreign students, graduates and postdocs as well as on funding offered by other selected organizations.

In here you can find the CHE Ranking of German universities. You just need to select the type of subject, institution and degree.

The DAAD helps you go through a checklist that you need keep in mind when applying for a degree programme in Germany

If you have any further questions you can also always contact the DAAD online through their chatbot or directly through one of their regional offices and information centres (if you have one nearby you).
