All information about starting your studies

The time has finally come: your first semester at the University of Halle is just around the corner.

Terms such as Uni-Service-Card, Löwenportal, StudIP, and Immatrikulationsamt (student registration office) may cause a little confusion – but that is completely normal. The explanations here in Welcome Portal provide more clarity. We highly recommend attending the introductory events at the beginning of the semester.

Still, anyone who has clicked through the subpages (see menu items) already knows quite a lot!

End of August 2026: Official launch of Welcome Portal 2026 with dates of the introductory events.

Mid-September: Start of digital purchase of the Deutschland semester ticket via movemix app. This public transport ticket - valid nationwide - is already paid for via the semester fee (mandatory). It is only valid from the start of the semester (1 October 2026).

1 October 2026: Official start of winter semester 2026/27 – first day of validity of the University Service Card (student ID) and the Deutschland semester ticket.

5-9 October 2026: Subject-specific introductory events organised by institutes (dates depend on the degree programme; may also take place on other days).

7-8 October 2026:  Lecture programme in halls at Universitätsplatz.

8 October 2026:  Freshers' Day with welcome party and lecture programme in halls at Universitätsplatz.

12 October 2026: start of lectures in winter semester 2026/27.
